A SOLO SHOW BY MARÍA IGNACIA WALKER

From October 8 to 10, 2015
Mutuo Centro de Arte, c/Julià Portet, nº5, BARCELLONA

OPENING ON OCTOBER 8, 2015

FROM 8.30 pm TO 11 pm

Alchimia is proud to present Trascendieron, a solo exhibition by Chilean graduating jewellery artist Maria Ignacia Walker opening at the independent cultural centre Mutuo in Barcelona on October 8, 2015. This is the first in a series of solo exhibitions realized by the graduating students of Alchimia’s MFA program 2014/2015, each happening in a diffezrent city, from Prague to Antwerp, between October 2015 and April 2016.

Trascendieron is conceived as an homage to the mundane and silent losses we inadvertently experience every day. Hair are captured by porcelain in a collection of contemporary jewellery that thinks about the obsessive impulse to collect and to preserve, by bringing both aspects to the extreme. Hair are counted, measured, meticulously analyzed and preserved as precious and rare material in a humoristic yet poetic act, with an alluring form that only on the body maintains the necessary balance between the uncanny and the seducing.

The exhibition will be accompanied by an artist limited edition freely distributed  during  the  opening, and an artist book to be downloaded from October 8, 2015 onwards at: http://mariaignaciawalker.com.
