The last week we passed to fine tune the Graduation Show “Purus” .
All was ready concept, layout, press release, publicity…………

except : THE REAL THING

Fortunately we had

Giulia

and of course many others

there is so much work to do and even if you know beforehand exactly what you want and how you think to achieve it..

there are always details that do not turn out as you expected, new decisions to take..

need for rapid adjustment, ideas if technical issues do not work as expected

but then when things slowly take form and become clear, turn out maybe even better than expected

then you understand that the energy you have put in was worth while

but there was not only the graduation show to prepare but  also the End of the Year exhibition of the second and the third year…

Lucia, Peter and all the students are still working to get it all done

for Thursday 14.th of June 2012 at 6 p.m.

(big problem, at this precise hour Italy is playing against Croatia in the European Soccer Championship)

but somebody will come, we are sure

and then there is still Chica….

At Valencia Melting Point

As always the report comes a bit late, but there are some other sites that were faster than us. Please take a look at them:

Valencia Melting Point, Hazardous Experiments, carolinagimeno Blog, Bijou_Contemporain Jewelry, Mardecolorrosa, chiarame, dorismaninger

But now lets start from the beginning

arrival in the evening and immediate start of set up work. Big, beautiful space, wonderful hosts, lots of beer, and some confusion

boxes full of experiments to open

The task was to open all of them, line the materials on the foam boards and only after go to eat, fortunately in Spain you can eat also at midnight

It was tough but we did it

and the next day was almost a miracle

The foam boards we had ordered were exactly the color of walls and floor tiles

the amount we had bought was exaclty the right one,

and what we had immagined worked out !!!!!!!

we could happily drink after hard work and wait for the visitors to come

and they came, young and old, and more and more

after a while there was no time for drinking and joking anymore

all the students had to work: explain, explain, explain

the later it got the more visitors came and the explanations got better and better

and probably also more inspired

once in while a little rest was allowed

we had real glasses, no plastic and nothing broke

it was a wonderful evening, warm and full with the smell of spring blossoms, and it was Spain

miraculously none of the foam boards fell and no experiment either

nothing was lost, no piece displaced, touched but not dispaced

we found many new friends, some known over the web but never seen as Marianne Gassier from Bijoucontemporain

or some of the members of the BORAX group

The teachers and students from EASD Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València
who had organized all this, exhibitions, conferences, dinners, workshops had done a great job.

everybody asked questions and wanted to know about the materials and the working process

it was unusual for all to be able to touch freely the exhibited pieces

and this was a big part of the success of our exhibition

we were all  happy about this evening, it was one of the moments when you really feel sorry for the passing of  time.
IT was  the teamwork that had let to this result that made us particularly proud. We had done it all together and could be happy together, each one of the Hazardous Operations Team had been precious to the end result.

Here just some more pictures all taken by HaNa Choi who had the task to document the whole event

Its been a long time since the last post. Easter vacation and other more urgent activities in between.
But now we are ready again to inform you about our latest activities.

First of all the 4 days workshop of our second year class in Peter Bauhuis’ new studio in Munich.

Peter's new studio

It was an exciting experience for our  students, to work in the artist’s studio, to get a really close look on the working habits and of course also on the work of their teacher.

every detail of the casting technique process could be carried out

the liquid wax cast into the plaster mold

Chiara pouring the liquid metal under Peter's supervision

wax experiments ready for selection, not all could be casted

Yuqi and Francesca preparing their pieces for casting

a wax 'tree'

the 'cuvette' positioned for the kiln

some final results in different metals

They all would have liked to stay longer !!!!!!!

Last week second year students had their first work shop with Peter Bauhuis. The workshop named “Lines, Forms, Projections” induced the students to explore the passage from one dimension to two dimension and then the possible resulting third dimension.

How can we get from a line to a three dimensional object?

What kind a form is behind a shadow?

Difficult questions and a lot of thinking.

fortunately the weather was great which made the thinking a bit easier.

But they did also some short projects for example to produce a ring out of a line in 1 hour.

At the end they had to make a short movie with shadows.

The results were innovative and fun and the beginning of what will be a year full of challenges and new ways of seeing!!

We can say that the work of Peter Bauhuis, teacher at Alchimia since 2008, fits perfectly in the concept of the gallery.

“At Platina you will find gossiping jewellery that tells truths and untruths, gorgeous jewellery that fascinates, annoys and tickles, protesting jewellery, storytelling, chanting and enchanting jewellery.”

Peter Bauhuis’ jewellery tells truths and untruths and tickles.
“Outis”, ancient greek word meaning “nobody”, could be easily mixed up with “outies”, contemporary slang word with a totally different meaning, and maybe it is exactly this tickle that Peter is searching for.

Many artists, writers have used the name Outis as their pseudonym, and the word appears often in contemporary music or theater. In Luciano Berio’s music drama “Outis” tells the following lines:
in Fackelhöhe,
im Zeitloch:
hör dich ein
mit dem Mund.

Outis –
Nobody, no man
What kind of name is that for a line of brooches? Is this modesty to the point of self-denial? Or is it an answer? It was certainly the perfect rejoinder in the Iliad, when the monstrous Polyphemos, one-eyed and clueless, asked who goes there in his cave. “Outis,” said Odysseus, cunningly punning on his name, which happened to sound so much like the ancient Greek word for nobody. Or does it mean the brooch makes its wearer a nobody? Or somebody unlike anybody else? An utterly unique individual? When Polyphemos devoured Odysseus’ comrades, Odysseus put out the giant’s eye. “Nobody, my friends, is trying to kill me,” cried the terrible mouth that had eaten the men. Odysseus had just shown him what a nobody could do.
My parents had a shop. Customers and strangers usually entered it with a greeting. To distinguish family members and employees, they were required to call out “it’s nobody” loud and clear when setting foot into the door. Somebody is behind every Outis. All the more so when that somebody pins on Outis.
